Vegetarian diets are growing in popularity due to their claimed health benefits, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. This study analyzed the nutritional composition in various types of vegetarian diets, such as lacto-ovo vegetarian, vegan, and pesco-vegetarian, and their impact on cardiovascular health. The methods used include literature insights from epidemiological studies and clinical trials comparing vegetarian diets with omnivore diets. The results of the analysis show that vegetarian diets are generally rich in fiber, antioxidants and unsaturated fats, but have potential deficiencies in certain nutrients such as vitamin B12, iron and omega-3 fatty acids. Several studies also indicate that a vegetarian diet can lower blood pressure, LDL cholesterol levels, and the risk of atherosclerosis, contributing to better heart health. However, its effectiveness really depends on the right nutritional balance and the variety of foods consumed. Thus, a vegetarian diet can be an effective strategy in preventing cardiovascular disease if it is designed with optimal nutritional needs in mind.
